1 Die – Several Injure After US Shooting – Fire At Mormon Church

A deadly attack struck a Mormon church in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, on Sunday, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

Gatekeepers News reports that authorities confirmed that the assailant, a 40-year-old man from a nearby community, was killed by police at the scene.

Officials reported that the attacker rammed his vehicle into the front entrance of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before opening fire with an assault rifle on worshippers gathered inside.

Police Chief William Renye said the service was ongoing with hundreds of people within the church when the assault began, adding that investigators believe the gunman intentionally set the building ablaze before officers intervened and fatally shot him.

The fire has since been contained. Emergency responders transported ten people with gunshot wounds to the hospital, one of whom later died. Renye warned that more victims could be discovered once the building is fully secured.

Images from the scene showed thick smoke rising from the church as paramedics wheeled victims away on stretchers.

The FBI has joined the investigation. Chief Kash Patel wrote on X, “Violence in a place of worship is a cowardly and criminal act. Our prayers are with the victims and their families during this terrible tragedy.”
