Media personality Toke Makinwa has revealed that motherhood is helping her recover from deep-seated childhood trauma and painful experiences she thought she had overcome.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the 40-year-old, who welcomed her daughter, Yakira Eliana, in August 2025, shared the revelation in a post on X on Sunday.

She wrote: “My daughter brought me healing, she is daily healing parts of me I didn’t even know needed healing, healing from my childhood trauma, from grief I thought I had dealt with a long time ago. Maybe God knew I needed this.”

Makinwa, actress and author of On Becoming, lost both parents in a gas explosion at the age of eight — a tragedy she has repeatedly described as one of the most painful moments of her life.

She also endured a high-profile divorce from fitness coach, Maje Ayida, in 2017 after three years of marriage.

Reflecting on her new journey, Makinwa said motherhood has given her a fresh perspective on life and continues to help her mend old wounds.
