Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has said that the challenges confronting Nigeria did not originate under the current administration.
Gatekeepers News reports that during a special service held at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration, Akume stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced bold reforms aimed at addressing the situation.
He emphasized the responsibility of all citizens in nation-building, saying, “Each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria that we deserve.”
The SGF reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to national transformation, pointing to policy steps already undertaken, including the removal of fuel subsidy.
He said, “The President needs the support of every Nigerian. What President Bola Tinubu is doing today could have been done 39 years ago. But, I believe that at the end of the tunnel, there is light.”
Akume also urged harmony between the three arms of government, noting, “We must always cooperate, Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary.”
According to him, Independence Day is not only a moment to mark Nigeria’s liberation from colonial rule but also a time to pay tribute to the nation’s founding fathers who secured independence.
