South-South Zonal Working Committee of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports that the executives of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states have been dissolved.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Wednesday by Prince Etim Isong, the zonal publicity secretary, the PDP South-South zone described the claim attributed to Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, as null and void.
The zonal committee insisted that the purported dissolution was unconstitutional and carried out without due consultation.
It said, “The absence of consultation and approval from the appropriate party organs renders Mr. Ologunagba’s statement regarding the purported dissolution of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States Executives unconstitutional, null, and void, and of no effect whatsoever.”
Reaffirming the legitimacy of the two state executives, the zonal leadership maintained that the duly elected Executives of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States remain in office, fully empowered to discharge their responsibilities as mandated by the PDP constitution.
It further urged members of the party to disregard Ologunagba’s pronouncements. It added, “His claims are personal opinions that do not reflect the official position of the party’s leadership at both National and Zonal levels.”
Expressing discontent over his conduct, the zonal leadership declared Ologunagba persona non grata within the South-South zone.
Ut said, “It is of great concern that Mr. Ologunagba continues to conduct himself in a manner unbecoming of a representative of a national party. His recent actions clearly position him as an adversary to the South-South Zone.”
The zone also announced a total breakdown of trust in the national publicity secretary and demanded that he refrain from all affairs of the zone until the National Working Committee adequately addresses our concerns.
The PDP South-South zone called on party faithful to remain calm and stand firm with the existing executives of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, stressing that unity is essential to counter alleged attempts to destabilize the party.
The statement concluded, “The PDP South-South Zone reiterates its steadfast commitment to upholding the constitution and ensuring the integrity of the party’s structures, particularly in our zone, with a view to safeguarding its long-term interests and credibility.”
