The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its troops under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), 6 Brigade, successfully stopped a planned terrorist attack in Taraba State.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released on Wednesday, Umar Muhammad, the acting assistant director of army public relations in Jalingo, explained that the troops acted on credible intelligence which revealed that armed bandits were gathering in Tor-Ikyeghgba village on October 1, 2025.
Upon reaching the area, soldiers encountered the terrorists near the powerline axis and immediately engaged them. According to the army, the troops’ decisive action led to the neutralisation of two suspects.
Muhammed said, “Acting on credible intelligence, troops on October 1, 2025 advanced to Tor-Ikyeghgba village where bandits were reported to be converging.”
“On arrival at the general area, the troops made contact with the terrorists along the powerline axis and immediately engaged them with superior firepower, resulting in the neutralisation of two. During the operation, the following items were recovered: one locally fabricated pistol, two dane guns, three rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, one Baofeng radio, one motorcycle and other items.”
Brigade commander Kingsley Uwa, who praised the operation, lauded the soldiers for their swift response, resilience, and professionalism. He assured residents of Taraba that the army remains committed to protecting lives and property.
Uwa also appealed to members of the public to continue providing reliable information to support the ongoing operation Lafiya na kowa.
He emphasised that collaboration between the army and the community is vital in the fight against criminality.
