Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Thursday paid a working visit to Diffa Region in the Niger Republic as part of efforts to strengthen trans-border security and economic cooperation in the fight against insurgency.
Gatekeepers News reports that Zulum, accompanied by a high-level security and economic delegation, was received by Governor of Diffa, Brig.-Gen. Mahamaduo Ibrahim Bagadoma, alongside other senior officials. The meeting focused on joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and sustaining recent military gains that have forced insurgents out of several strongholds around Lake Chad.
Diffa, located just 17 kilometres from Damasak town in northern Borno, currently hosts thousands of Nigerians displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Governor Zulum also outlined plans to build on the improved security situation by facilitating the safe return of displaced farmers to fertile agricultural lands around Dutchi town in the Lake Chad basin, a move he said would boost food production and local livelihoods.
