Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its State Congress will hold on Sunday, October 5, 2025, in Benin City.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement signed by Bob-Manuel Umoru, Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, the party faulted a release jointly issued by former State Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, and Mr. Duke Tenebe, which alleged that the congress should be disregarded.
It said, “Ordinarily, we would have ignored such baseless and self-serving comments, but for the sake of clarity and to keep our members and the public properly informed, it has become necessary to set the record straight.”
The party accused Aziegbemi and Tenebe of acting out of frustration and greed, having lost relevance within the party.
It further alleged that their sudden opposition to the congress was a “clear manifestation of political inconsistency and moral bankruptcy.”
The party also recalled that the same individuals had recently sought the support of Chief Dan Osi Orbih to validate an “illegal and parallel congress.”
Reassuring members of its unity and legitimacy, the Edo PDP maintained that the congress would go ahead as planned.
It said, “The Edo PDP leadership and members across the 18 local government areas remain resolute, focused, and united under the constitutionally recognized structure of our great party.”
The statement called on delegates, stakeholders, and the general public to “disregard the sponsored falsehood being circulated by these frustrated elements” and participate peacefully in the scheduled congress to elect new members of the State Working Committee.
