Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed comments by US Senator Ted Cruz alleging that Nigerian officials are turning a blind eye to the killing of Christians.
Gatekeepers News reports that Cruz, in a post on X, accused Islamist jihadists of mass murder of Christians in Nigeria and claimed state actors were complicit.
He urged action through his proposed Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act, which he said would sanction officials facilitating such violence.
Responding on the same platform, Onanuga dismissed the senator’s remarks as malicious and contrived lies, stressing that Nigeria is not facing a religious war.
He wrote, “The degraded Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East target everyone, including farmers and soldiers. Bandits in the North-West kill worshippers in mosques. Christians are not being singled out. We have religious harmony in our country.”
