British Teen Who Served Jail Term In Dubai Dies In London Car Crash

A 19-year-old British teenager, Marcus Fakana, who had previously been jailed in Dubai for engaging in a relationship with a 17-year-old girl, has died in a car accident in north London, just three months after his release.

Gatekeepers News reports that Fakana was a passenger in a vehicle that collided with a truck in Tottenham during the early hours of Friday morning. He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries but was later pronounced dead.

According to the Metropolitan Police, officers had attempted to stop the vehicle moments before the crash. After a brief, one-minute chase, they lost sight of the car, which was later discovered wrecked.

Fakana had been sentenced to a year in a Dubai prison but received a royal pardon from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, in July.

His lawyer, Radha Stirling, founder of the advocacy group Detained in Dubai, said Fakana was deeply thankful for public support during his ordeal and had turned his focus to faith and rebuilding his life after regaining freedom.

Stirling said, “It’s heartbreaking that he was only free for three months after enduring such trauma in Dubai”, noting the lasting emotional toll of his imprisonment.

Police have charged 19-year-old Marwaan Mohamed Huseen of Argyle Road, Tottenham, in connection with the fatal crash. Huseen faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, driving without insurance or a licence, and failing to stop.

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody. The case is scheduled to continue at the Old Bailey on October 30.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been notified about the incident.
