Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), National Assembly chapter, have announced plans to begin a peaceful picketing exercise over alleged financial misconduct, unpaid entitlements, and interference in union affairs.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a letter dated October 3, 2025, and addressed to the Clerk of National Assembly, the workers accused management of intimidation, harassment, and victimisation of members who demanded accountability from union leaders.

According to the association, the PASAN constitution requires its executive council to submit audited financial reports to the congress. However, former union executives were reportedly removed in July 2024 for failing to meet this obligation.

It further alleged that the clerk was attempting to reinstate the sacked officers despite the congress’s decision, a move that had raised concerns about possible misuse and laundering of union funds.

The disgruntled staff also outlined other unresolved issues, including short payment of salaries, diversion of training funds, non-payment of statutory deductions such as pensions and housing contributions, and the delayed implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).

Their list of demands covers full payment of rent subsidy, hazard and peculiar allowances, medical benefits, implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, provision of staff buses, and the establishment of the National Assembly Service Pension Board.

The letter added, “Your decision to protect the ousted executives has heightened suspicion that management, in collaboration with them, mismanaged union funds.”

PASAN members said repeated attempts to engage management in dialogue had failed, prompting their decision to begin the protest on October 7, 2025.

Copies of the notice were sent to the Sergeant-at-Arms and Department of State Services (DSS) at National Assembly, seeking security coverage during the picketing exercise.
