Troops Nab Suspected ISWAP Spy And Logistics Courier

The Nigerian Army has apprehended a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) allegedly spying on troops in Baga town, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Friday, the army described the suspect as a logistics and intelligence courier who operated between terrorist camps in Chad and Niger Republic.

The army added that the individual has been transferred to the 403 Amphibious Brigade for deeper investigation.

According to the statement, on 8 October 2025, troops of 196 Amphibious Battalion at Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State arrested an ISWAP/JAS terrorist fighter while attempting to infiltrate the town.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect had been acting as a courier between terrorist enclaves in Chad and Niger, disguising himself as a surrendering insurgent in an effort to gather information on military movements.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, the army reported that three ISWAP fighters surrendered in Niger State, attributing their decision to intense military pressure and hardship in terrorist enclaves around the Tumbun Marcobina axis.

The military noted that the individuals, originally from Konduga and Jabilam, are currently undergoing profiling and further interrogation.

Additionally, the force revealed that on 7 October 2025, troops of the 2 Brigade, working alongside operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) from the Port Harcourt Command, carried out a joint raid on a suspected kidnappers’ den in Eket LGA of Akwa Ibom State.

The operation led to the arrest of Emmanuel Akpan, a notorious kidnap kingpin active along the Oron/Ibaka axis.

The army confirmed that the suspect has been handed over to the DSS for continued investigation.
