National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for attempting to smuggle 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his body and private parts.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Godwin, who owns boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was arrested upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET941 on October 8 following credible intelligence.
A body scan reportedly confirmed that the suspect had ingested and concealed illicit drugs. Babafemi said, “A total of 58 wraps of cocaine were recovered from his underwear, after which he excreted another 69 wraps during observation — bringing the total to 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms.”
The agency also intercepted multiple drug consignments at a courier firm in Lagos bound for the United Kingdom on October 9 and 10, including 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in glass ceramics, and other packages containing pentazocine, tramadol, skunk, and tapentadol disguised in herbal and vitamin containers.
At Murtala Muhammed International Airport, operatives intercepted 27,510 pills of Rohypnol concealed in sachets of alcoholic drinks destined for South Africa, leading to the arrest of Samuel Omoruyi (a.k.a. Yellow) and two accomplices.
In a separate case, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Uyimwen, was arrested while attempting to ship 3,700 pills of tramadol and 2,600 tablets of tapentadol concealed in food items to Italy.
NDLEA operatives also made several arrests and drug seizures across Edo, Osun, Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna States, recovering large quantities of skunk, tramadol, and exol-5 during raids and highway operations.
Babafemi added that the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign continues nationwide through lectures in schools, worship centres, and workplaces to curb drug abuse among young Nigerians.
