Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that contractors working on the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway will now operate double shifts to ensure the project is completed ahead of schedule.
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Umahi assured that the rehabilitation of the major highway would be delivered in record time.
He explained that the federal government had approved the use of rigid concrete pavement technology for the over 700-kilometre road to enhance its durability and reduce future maintenance costs.
Governor Sani hailed the project as vital to the nation’s development, describing the expressway as a national artery essential to the economic and social integration of northern Nigeria.
He said, “This expressway is not just a road — it is an economic corridor that connects people, markets, and opportunities across northern Nigeria and beyond.”
The federal government allocated ₦740 billion for the reconstruction, which commenced in April, with the entire project expected to be completed by June 2026.
