The National Working Committee (NWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Gatekeepers News reports that the NEC meeting was originally scheduled to take place on October 15 at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
In a statement released on Monday, Debo Ologunagba, the party’s spokesperson, said the postponement was due to recent developments within the party. He assured members that a new date for the meeting would be announced soon.
The statement reads, “All NEC members should please note the postponement and be guided accordingly.”
The NEC, which serves as the highest decision-making body of the PDP, includes state governors, serving and former presidents, vice-presidents, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, chairpersons of state chapters, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), former governors, and founding members of the party.
Preparations had been underway for the PDP national convention, slated for November 15, where new members of the NWC were expected to be elected.
However, the process has faced legal hurdles. A group of PDP members, believed to be allies of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to halt the convention.
In his ruling last Thursday, Justice James Omotosho declined to grant an ex parte injunction against the party, instead directing the plaintiffs to serve the defendants with their motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction. The case was adjourned until October 14 for a hearing.
Meanwhile, the PDP continues to grapple with a wave of defections with several Governors and lawmakers defecting All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Recall that Gatekeepers earlier today reported that Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, announced his defection from PDP to APC.
