Imo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a viral video showing some of its officers displaying behaviour described as “unprofessional and unethical.”
Gatekeepers News reports that the footage, which circulated widely on social media, captured the officers in Owerri, the state capital, wearing berets and caps commonly linked to the Vikings confraternity, also known as ‘Denmark (DNKI).’ The officers were heard chanting “men mount” and seen firing shots into the air in celebration.
Reacting to the incident, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter, condemning the officers’ actions as conduct unworthy of members of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, Danjuma assured the public that the issue would be treated with the utmost seriousness and that those found guilty would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with police regulations.
The statement reads, “The commissioner of police strongly condemns the conduct as unethical and unbecoming of police officers.”
“He assures the public that the matter is being handled with utmost seriousness and that upon conclusion of investigations, the officers involved will face serious disciplinary measures in accordance with police regulations.”
The Command reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, discipline, and effective policing in accordance with its constitutional duties.
