Trossard’s Goal Secures Narrow Victory For Arsenal At The Top

Arsenal climbed three points clear at the top of Premier League after Leandro Trossard’s second-half goal earned a 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Belgian forward’s strike was his first league goal of the season and extended Arsenal’s winning streak to five matches across all competitions, while maintaining an eight-game unbeaten run.

Earlier, Manchester City had briefly overtaken Arsenal at the summit with a 2-0 victory over Everton. However, Mikel Arteta’s side regained first place with a composed, if measured, display on the banks of the River Thames.

Arsenal now have six wins from eight league matches this season as they aim for their first English title since 2004. Fulham created early opportunities, with Harry Wilson setting up Raul Jimenez, whose shot was saved by David Raya.

Wilson later came close again after capitalising on a misplaced pass from Gabriel Magalhaes, and Riccardo Calafiori’s potential opener was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

Fulham’s persistence saw Josh King deliver a cross that forced Raya into another save, while Viktor Gyokeres missed a chance after running onto Bukayo Saka’s pass.

Arsenal’s frustration continued until the 58th minute, when their set-piece threat proved decisive. Gabriel flicked on Saka’s corner and Trossard converted from close range, securing the match-winning goal. Since the start of the 2023-24 campaign, Arsenal have scored 37 Premier League goals from corners.

The Gunners maintained control after the breakthrough, with Saka forcing a fine save from Bernd Leno. VAR also overturned a potential penalty after confirming Kevin’s challenge on Saka made contact with the ball.
