A man was injured on Saturday after a truck carrying printing materials fell off the Oshodi Bridge in Lagos and landed in a ditch below.
Gatekeepers News reports that the truck lost control while descending from Oshodi-Oke toward Mile 2 due to a suspected brake failure. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq.
Taofiq said the injured victim was rescued from the wreckage and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He added that the truck driver had been arrested and handed over to officers at Makinde Police Station for further investigation into the mechanical failure and other possible causes of the accident.
The statement reads, “Preliminary findings show that the truck, which was loaded with toner printing materials, developed a serious mechanical fault while coming down the bridge. It lost control, veered off the road, and fell into the terminal area beneath the bridge.”
The LASTMA spokesperson noted that the swift response of traffic officers helped prevent a more serious disaster. Officials arrived within minutes, rescued the victim, managed traffic, and cleared the wreckage to avoid further accidents.
He added, “To ensure safety, our officers quickly cordoned off the area, redirected vehicles, and cleared the scene to restore free traffic flow.”
The authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the brake failure and whether the truck was properly maintained.
