Tinubu Meets New Service Chiefs After Major Military Shake-Up

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held his first security meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the State House in Abuja.

Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting comes days after the president carried out a sweeping overhaul of the country’s military leadership last Friday, relieving the former service chiefs of their duties.

Under the new appointments, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede was named Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

Before his promotion, Oluyede served as Chief of Army Staff. Major General Waidi Shaibu takes over as the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke was appointed as Chief of Air Staff.

Rear Admiral Idi Abbas is now the Chief of Naval Staff, and Major General Emmanuel Akomaye Parker Undiandeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

This marks the second major restructuring of the military hierarchy since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023. The development follows weeks of speculation about an alleged failed coup attempt.
