NCC – Swedfund Partner To Enhance Security And Reliability Of Nigeria’s 5G Network

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has entered into a grant partnership with Swedfund, Sweden’s development finance institution, to enhance the security and dependability of Nigeria’s 5G network infrastructure.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a post shared on X on Wednesday, NCC said the collaboration will develop a risk-based framework to ensure that 5G and future network systems are securely designed, deployed, and managed.

It said, “Fifth-Generation (5G) mobile technology brings faster speeds, low delays, and supports millions of connected devices.”

“However, it also introduces new security risks due to its complex infrastructure and multiple network vendors. Security and trust remain central to Nigeria’s digital future.”

According to NCC, the initiative aims to strengthen public confidence, safeguard national interests, and promote a more resilient digital economy as 5G continues to transform sectors such as power, healthcare, transport, and education.

MTN Nigeria had earlier, on August 25, 2022, launched a pilot phase of its 5G service across seven cities—Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano, Owerri, Maiduguri, and Abuja—allowing users with compatible devices to access the network where coverage exists.
