The new Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has vowed not to tolerate any act capable of threatening peace and security in the state.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Kankarofi made this declaration on Wednesday during his maiden press briefing at the state command headquarters in Lokoja, shortly after assuming duty as the new Commissioner of Police.

“This is my first day in the command, and today is historic because it marks my first posting as a state commissioner of police,” he said. “I thank the Inspector-General of Police for giving me this opportunity to serve in this capacity.”

The commissioner stated that his primary responsibility was to protect lives and property, uphold the law, and maintain order across the state.

“We are in the era of community policing, which means I have the mandate to work with various communities across Kogi State in the interest of peace and security,” he said. “I therefore need to let the people of the state know that I will not condone any threat to peace, terrorism, banditry, or criminality in any form.”

Kankarofi noted that he had already received assurances of support from the state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to effectively deliver on his mandate.

Highlighting Kogi’s industrial profile, he said the state’s growing number of industries attracts people from different parts of the country, requiring a “strategic and proactive security framework” to maintain order.

“We are also in the ember months when there is increased movement of goods and people. I will ensure that residents enjoy maximum peace and security to conduct their daily activities without fear. I assure everyone of adequate protection,” the CP added.

He appealed to the media and the general public to cooperate with the police to promote peace and enhance public safety across the state.

CP Kankarofi replaces CP Miller Dantawaye, who is now the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Dantawaye succeeded CP Ajao Saks Adewale, who has been redeployed to another strategic position by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The announcement of the new postings was contained in a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Friday.
