American rapper Nicki Minaj has lauded U.S. President Donald Trump following his decision to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over alleged widespread persecution of Christians.
Gatekeepers News reports that the announcement, made by Trump on Friday, cited allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, which he attributed to extremist violence targeting Christian communities.
Reacting to the development via her official X handle, Minaj expressed gratitude for the freedom of worship in the United States, emphasising that no one should be oppressed because of their faith.
She wrote, “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”
The hip-hop star further urged global awareness of religious violence and called on her followers to pray for victims of persecution, particularly Christians facing oppression in various parts of the world.
She added, “Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to the President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”
According to the U.S. Department of State, a Country of Particular Concern is one that engages in or tolerates systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.
Nigeria was first listed as a CPC in 2020 during Trump’s administration but was later removed from the list by President Joe Biden’s government in 2021.
