NDLEA Arrests Three Over 1.7 Tonnes Cannabis Seizure

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, has arrested three suspects for allegedly transporting 1,779 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa from the Imeko axis to Abeokuta, the state capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that the suspects — identified as Rauf Asogba (28), Seun Olaniyi (24), and Ayinla Adeniyi (50) — were intercepted in the early hours of Saturday, February 1, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation, according to Harris Musa, spokesperson for the NDLEA in Ogun State.

Musa said the suspects were caught while attempting to move the illicit consignment concealed in a J5 vehicle. He described the seizure as one of the command’s major breakthroughs in recent months, noting that it underscored the NDLEA’s resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the state.

“The consignment was uncovered after sustained intelligence gathering and tactical manoeuvring by operatives. This operation demonstrates the NDLEA’s dedication to ensuring that Ogun State does not serve as a conduit for drug trafficking,” Musa said.

The State Commander, Mr. Tijjani Rabe, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift response, which led to the successful interception and arrest.

Rabe reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to intensifying the fight against drug abuse and trafficking, assuring that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.

He also called on residents to support the NDLEA by sharing credible intelligence that could help track and disrupt drug distribution networks.

“The public remains our most valuable ally in achieving a drug-free Ogun State and, by extension, a drug-free Nigeria. We urge citizens to continue to share actionable intelligence to aid our operations,” he stated.

The NDLEA reiterated its warning to individuals or groups involved in the cultivation, trafficking, or sale of illicit drugs to desist or face the full weight of the law, adding that it would sustain surveillance and enforcement efforts across the state.
