Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially withdrawn its ₦100 billion lawsuit that challenges the issuance of petroleum importation licences in Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that the legal action, filed on September 6, 2024, had named Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) as the first defendant, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited as the second, and five other companies — AYM Shafa Limited, A.A. Rano Limited, T. Time Petroleum Limited, 2015 Petroleum Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited.
In the suit, Dangote Refinery argued that the NMDPRA breached sections 317(8) and (9) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) by issuing import licences when such permits should only be granted in cases of a domestic supply shortfall.
However, during the resumed hearing on Wednesday, counsel to the refinery, C.O. Adegbe, informed the court that the company had filed a notice of discontinuance on July 28 after reaching an understanding with the defendants.
Following this submission, Justice Mohammed Umar dismissed the case, bringing the legal dispute to an end.
