Daddy Fresh Cries Out: ‘I’ve Been Bedridden For Years And My Organs Are Failing’

Veteran Nigerian reggae singer, Innocent Michael Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, has made a heartfelt plea for help after revealing his prolonged battle with a life-threatening illness that has left him bedridden and financially drained.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the emotional appeal surfaced through the Instagram page of filmmaker Kunle Afod, who recently visited the ailing musician. In the video, Daddy Fresh, frail and dressed in a blue sleeveless top, lay in bed, struggling to recognise his visitor.

“Oba,” he murmured weakly when Afod entered.
“It’s Afod, Kunle Afod,” the actor responded gently.

Speaking with visible pain, the reggae star recounted how he has been confined to his bed for over two and a half years, a battle that has consumed all his savings and left his body failing.

“I started hallucinating, seeing people—those I know and those I don’t. I talk directly to them, but other people no dey see them. This one don too much o,” he said.

Daddy Fresh detailed his worsening health condition, noting that several of his organs are failing.
“The person taking care of me will show you the test results — my kidney, my liver, neuropathy. My two eyes had issues; I operated on one, and I cannot see with it again,” he explained.
“Now, I need a blood transfusion. They said I need two or three packs of blood immediately because my blood level is very low — 25%. I will fall if I stand except someone holds me. See my face, my knees — all wounds from falling, like a child learning to walk.”

The singer also suggested that his condition might be linked to spiritual attacks.
“They just want to destroy themselves, not me. The enemies are eager to know how far. All the while I kept silent, they were confused, wondering if their evil plans had failed,” he added.

Kunle Afod, visibly moved, appealed to fans, colleagues, and the public to rally support for the once-vibrant performer.
“This is Daddy Fresh. If you know him, you know what I’m talking about — very handsome, lovely voice, a fantastic music artist,” Afod said.
“He has been down with sickness for over three years. I’m here to beg the world, Nigerians, and the entertainment industry — please, let’s keep him alive. We need your support. I met him in a terrible state.”

Born in Lagos but originally from Abia State, Daddy Fresh rose to fame in the 1980s as a pioneer of Nigerian reggae music. He was a founding member of the group ‘DE Pretty Busy Boys’, alongside Daddy Showkey, Cashman Davies, and Sexy Pretty.
