Man Dies While Trying To Flee EFCC Raid At Lekki Estate

A resident of Periwinkle Estate in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, identified as Endurance Udeke, has died after attempting to escape arrest during a sting operation conducted by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released on Saturday, the EFCC said the operation, carried out on November 4, was aimed at apprehending suspected internet fraudsters within the estate. Four suspects were successfully arrested during the raid.

According to the agency, Udeke and another occupant of apartment W6a tried to evade arrest by jumping from a four-storey building after becoming aware of the presence of EFCC operatives.

Udeke sustained fatal injuries from the fall and died despite medical efforts to save him, while the other resident survived after receiving hospital treatment.

The EFCC clarified that there was no physical confrontation between its officers and the deceased before the incident occurred. It added that the matter has been reported to the police for investigation.

The agency said, “Operatives of the Commission were in the Estate to carry out a sting operation on November 4, 2025. The operation was smooth sailing in all the apartments, and four suspected internet fraudsters were arrested.”

“However, Udeke and one other resident of apartment W6a got wind of the operation and tried to escape arrest by jumping down from the four-storey building.”

“Udeke did not survive the suicidal efforts, in spite of medical interventions made to rescue him. The other resident, however, survived after being stabilised and treated at the hospital.”

EFCC expressed shock over the incident, noting that it had no prior contact with Udeke before his fatal jump.  It added, “The commission reported the incident to the police, which has begun an investigation into the incident.”

“While we await the outcome of the investigation, it is important to remind the public that no one with nothing to hide has reason to be afraid of the EFCC sting operation.”
