Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved a final 14-day grace period for owners of properties that breached Abuja’s land use regulations to settle a N5 million violation charge.
Gatekeepers News reports that this was announced in a statement on Sunday by Lere Olayinka, Wike’s senior special assistant on public communications and social media
According to Olayinka, the new extension takes effect from Tuesday, November 11, following the expiration of the initial 30-day payment window issued in September.
Earlier in September, the FCT Administration had penalised several property owners for converting residential structures into commercial premises without authorisation. The affected owners were instructed to regularise their land titles within 30 days.
The statement reads, “The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, has magnanimously granted a final grace period of 14 calendar days from Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for all affected allottees/holders of properties along the said streets/locations to comply with the terms and conditions of the approval for land use change/conversion.”
He warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would lead to enforcement actions by the FCT Administration.
The areas affected include Gana Street and Usuma Street in Maitama; Yakubu Gowon Crescent in Asokoro; Aminu Kano Crescent and Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse II; Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, and Onitsha Street in Garki II; as well as Ogbomosho Street, Lafia Close, Yola Street, Abriba Close, Danbatta Street, Ringim Close, and Ilorin Street in Garki I.
Olayinka further disclosed that compliant property owners will be eligible to receive new title documents. He added, “The Honourable Minister has, in addition, graciously approved the issuance of new title documents (Statutory Right of Occupancy and Certificate of Occupancy) in favour of the affected property owners, reflecting the updated land use of the properties for a fresh term of 99 years, upon fulfilling all necessary conditions.”
He clarified that this regularisation process does not include titles revoked for reasons such as non-development, failure to pay ground rent, or other violations.
Among those affected are Abdullahi Ganduje, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Governor of Osun State; Atanda Fatai-Williams and Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, former justices of the Supreme Court; and Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
