DR Congo Knock Nigeria Out Of 2026 World Cup

Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to reach 2026 World Cup after losing to DR Congo on penalties in the African qualifying playoff final.

Gatekeepers News reports that the match ended 1-1 after extra time, and DR Congo won 4-3 in the shootout.

Frank Onyeka put Nigeria ahead in just the third minute, but Mechak Elia equalised for DR Congo in the 32nd minute.

Nigeria’s campaign was further hit when their star striker, Victor Osimhen, was forced off through injury just before halftime.

In the shootout, Nigeria faltered — Calvin Bassey, Moses Simon, and Semi Ajayi missed their penalties.   DR Congo held their nerve, with captain Chancel Mbemba converting the decisive kick.

It’s the first time Nigeria has missed two World Cups in a row since its debut in 1994.
