Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi State, to meet with families of schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

Gatekeepers News reports that the vice president’s visit on Wednesday afternoon follows directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has canceled his scheduled trip to South Africa and Angola.

According to Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s spokesperson, the vice-president was welcomed by Governor Nasiru Idris, state officials, traditional rulers, and security leaders.

President Tinubu tasked Shettima with reassuring parents and guardians that the federal government remains committed to the safe and swift rescue of the abducted girls.

Nkwocha quoted Shettima as saying, “The President has made it clear that bringing these innocent children home safely is our singular, non-negotiable priority. Every security asset has been deployed for their rescue.”

The vice-president will also convey the president’s condolences over recent security challenges and reaffirm the administration’s pledge to protect all educational institutions nationwide.

Shettima is accompanied by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Bernard Doro, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar.
