At least 600 Students And Adult Learners on Thursday benefited from Rotary Club’s Donations of Instructional materials to support education in Borno State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the aim of the donations according to Comrade Abdulkareem Haruna, President of Rotary Club of Maiduguri, District 9127 is to complement the efforts of the state government in bridging the resource gap in public education.

This was made known during the distribution of Instructional materials to students of Jajel Junior Secondary School (JSS) Njimtilo and adult learners at the Borno State Agency for Mass Literacy in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Speaking during the presentation of materials at Jajel JSS,, Rotarian Abdulkareem Haruna, emphasised that the gesture was part of the club’s Education and Literacy project for the 2025-2026 Rotary year.

Mr Haruna noted that the intervention was designed to foster a spirit of academic excellence among the youth of Borno State.

He explained that the donation included a merit-based tier. While every student received notebooks to support daily coursework, the top 30 performing students—specifically those securing the first through fifth positions in their respective classes—were awarded branded school bags stocked with comprehensive learning aids.

“Your future rests on the way you pursue your education at a young age,” Haruna charged the students, adding that Rotary is funded by voluntary contributions from members worldwide, not government coffers.

The Principal of Jajel Junior Secondary School, Aishatu Maigairi Ahmed, expressed gratitude for the intervention. She lauded the efforts of the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, in revitalising the education sector but admitted that the government requires support.

“We lack the words to fully express our gratitude to Rotary,” Mrs Ahmed said. “While our Governor has done significant work for education, the government cannot do it alone. This is exactly what we need to instill a desire for continuous education.”

The team subsequently visited the Agency for Mass Literacy to distribute exercise notebooks to adult learners. The Director of Literacy, representing the Agency’s Executive Secretary, thanked the club for visiting a facility he noted is “not mostly visited by people” or donor organisations.

Rotarian Haruna described the adult learners’ resilience as a “weapon to conquer poverty and illiteracy.
