Expand Support For Women Education To Achieve Lasting Peace- Borno First Lady Tells Monachs And Devt Partners

Borno State First Lady, Dr. Falmata Babagana Zulum, on Thursday, made a passionate appeal to traditional rulers and development partners to intensify support for girls’ and women’s education, stressing thar it is critical for achieving lasting peace in communities.

Gatekeepers News reports that Mrs. Zulum also called for increased support for women in leadership roles and economic empowerment programs, stressing that their inclusion would strengthen community resilience and drive sustainable development.

This was disclosed during an event to commemorate the the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and presentation of awards to distinguished personalities for advancing the Women , Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in Borno State held at multipurpose hall of Government House, Maiduguri.


The First Lady commended the Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development (ALFOPED) with the support of FCDO and ICAN for bringing together critical stakeholders noting that ” your tireless commitment in building peaceful communities, supporting reconciliation and strengthening the role of women in peace building is remarkable and worthy of recognition ”

The First Lady praised the resilience of Borno women who have suffered immensely due to the ongoing Boko Haram 16-year-old insurgency and the devastating floods that ravaged Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Council in September last year.

” let continue to invest in the leadership of women , let us continue to uphold the dignity of women. I will like to appeal to our traditional leaders and development partners to expand to expand the support for women’s and girls education, leadership and livelihood- these are the foundation for sustainable peace.”

” As we celebrate the 25 anniversary of Women, Peace and Security agenda, let us remind ourselves and world of a fundamental truth that – peace without women is incomplete, fragile and unsustainable ” The First Lady said.
