US President Donald Trump has criticized Nigeria, accusing the federal government of failing to safeguard its citizens as violence escalates across the country.
Gatekeepers News reports that the US President made the remarks Friday during his appearance on Fox News Radio’s The Brian Kilmeade Show.
He said, “I think Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace. They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide. And I’m really angry about it.”
“And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidy to Nigeria which we’re going to end up stopping. The government’s done nothing. They are very ineffective.”
“They’re killing Christians at will. And you know until I got involved in it two weeks ago, nobody even talked about it.”
His comments follow renewed international concern over the intensifying wave of killings, kidnappings, and village raids linked to bandits, extremist groups, and other armed actors.
Recall that on Friday, gunmen stormed St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwarra LGA of Niger State.
According to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, 315 people — including 303 students and 12 teachers — were abducted.
25 female students were seized from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, where vice-principal Hassan Makuku was killed and a security guard, Ali Shehu, sustained gunshot injuries.
Additionally, in Kwara State, gunmen attacked a church in Eruku on Tuesday while worshippers were gathered. At least two people were killed, and 38 worshippers were abducted, prompting authorities to close schools in five districts due to security concerns.
