Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, has called on federal government to take firm action against those responsible for the latest wave of violence allegedly targeting Christian communities in Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a post on X, Meloni condemned the attacks, describing them as intolerable acts that demand an urgent response.
She urged the Nigerian government to bolster security and ensure that the individuals behind the killings are held accountable.
The PM wrote, “We strongly condemn the renewed violence that took place today against Christian communities in Nigeria.”
“Religious freedom is an inviolable right: we ask the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian communities and all religious communities and to prosecute those responsible for these heinous attacks.”
She added that Italy stands with the victims and the communities currently living in fear due to religiously motivated violence.
Meloni added, “Italy expresses all its closeness to the victims and to the communities in Nigeria who today feel in danger because of their religious beliefs.”
Recall that 25 female students were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, on Sunday, November 17, 2025. The school’s Vice-principal, Hassan Makuku was killed during the attack, while security guard Ali Shehu sustained gunshot injuries.

On Friday, November 21, 2025, gunmen attacked St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwarra LGA of Niger State, where 315 people including 303 students and 12 teachers, were abducted.
