Troops Arrest Suspected Kidnapper Demanding N20m Ransom In Taraba

Troops from 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and as part of Operation Zafin Wuta, have arrested Umar Musa Geyi, a suspected kidnapper, in Wukari LGA of Taraba State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the arrest occurred on Saturday in Jandei–Kulamu area, where Geyi was reportedly negotiating a N20 million ransom with relatives of an abducted victim.

Army spokesperson Umar Mohammed said Geyi has long been on the radar of security agencies due to his alleged involvement with a local kidnapping syndicate.

Preliminary investigations linked him to the November 13, 2025, abduction of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of Jandei–Kulala, who remains in captivity.

Mohammed explained that troops intercepted a phone call in which Geyi confirmed the victim was still being held and demanded the ransom.

Geyi is now in military custody and is being interrogated to assist authorities in locating the victim and ensuring a safe rescue.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift action and emphasized the army’s ongoing commitment to dismantling criminal networks across Taraba State.
