The meeting of the 19 northern Governors, earlier scheduled for November 22 in Kaduna, has been put on hold following a separate security engagement involving the seven Governors from the north-west.

Gatekeepers News reports that the planned forum, organised by Northern Governors Forum, was expected to address the renewed wave of terrorist attacks affecting several communities across the region.

Recall that in recent weeks, parts of Niger, Kebbi, and Kwara have come under intensified assaults, with rising abductions heightening public concern.

The postponement follows the earlier announcement by the 19 Governors to jointly review the worsening security situation.

Peter Ahemba, senior special assistant on public affairs to Nasarawa governor Abdullahi Sule, had said the session was intended to develop a collective security blueprint, with leading traditional rulers also invited.

He said, “The meeting aims to develop a unified approach to tackling security concerns affecting the region and discuss the way forward on security matters.”

Sule emphasised that citizens must support security efforts by providing useful information on individuals with criminal tendencies.
