Gov. Otti Visits Nnamdi Kanu In Sokoto Prison

Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Sunday visited Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

Gatekeepers New reports that Kanu was last month convicted of terrorism and handed a life sentence by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja. After the conviction, Otti had announced that he was working on a strategy to secure Kanu’s release.

Confirming the visit in a Facebook post, Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, praised the governor, describing him as “a man of his words.”

“Thank you, Your Excellency, Dr Alex Otti, for fulfilling the promise you made to me to visit your brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. May God bless you. And may your august visit to Sokoto today be the first step to ending this undeserved ordeal, sooner than later,” Ejimakor wrote.

Emmanuel Kanu, the detained IPOB leader’s brother, also commended the gesture, calling it a collective message.

“Governor Alex Otti and the people of Sokoto have made a unified statement by visiting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Otti nor the Sokoto Correctional Centre had issued an official statement regarding the visit.
