Governor Adeleke Resigns From PDP

Governor Ademola Adeleke has ended his membership of Peoples Democratic Party after formally notifying his ward chairman in a letter dated November 4.

Gatekeepers News reports that his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, released the letter in which the Governor linked his resignation to the unresolved national leadership crisis within the party.

Adeleke said, “Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.”

He also expressed his appreciation to the party for the opportunities it gave him to run for senator (representing Osun West) and for Governor of Osun State.

Recall that Adeleke won 2022 governorship race with 403,371 votes against Gboyega Oyetola of the APC, who secured 375,027 votes.

Although a tribunal later nullified his victory on grounds of over-voting, the Court of Appeal restored him in March 2023, and Supreme Court upheld his mandate in May 2023.

The Governor however did not indicate which political platform he plans to join. His decision follows growing tension within the Osun chapter of the party.

On Monday, Sunday Bisi, the state PDP chairman, warned that the Governor might abandon plans to contest for the party’s 2026 ticket unless the national crisis is resolved in line with Independent National Electoral Commission requirements.

Adeleke becomes the latest Governor to depart from the party this year, joining Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Peter Mbah of Enugu, and Douye Diri of Bayelsa.
