The Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy has unveiled plans for the maiden Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival.

Gatekeepers News reports that Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa announced the project at a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

The minister confirmed that the two-day event will be held on December 16 and 17, 2025, at the Cricket Pitch, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.

Conceived as a nationwide cultural showcase, the festival aims to highlight Nigeria’s rich culinary traditions, diverse cultural expressions, and vibrant creative scene.

Musawa described the initiative as part of the federal government’s broader agenda to use culture, tourism, and the creative economy as strong drivers of economic expansion, employment opportunities, and national cohesion.

She said, “Detty December began in Lagos as a cultural wave, and the federal government is committed to supporting a safe and memorable celebration for both Nigerians and international visitors.”

“This edition will be even bigger, and we look forward to the Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival becoming a major global attraction in the years ahead.”

Jude Irabor Uwagbai, managing director and chief operating officer of Irabor Creative Minds, also assured attendees of a secure environment throughout the festivities.

He said, “We are working with the Lagos Lion Building Police Division to maintain safety. The world is invited to Lagos to experience our culture.”
