NSC To Approve Nigeria’s Flag Football Federation

National Sports Commission (NSC) has begun the process of officially recognising Nigeria’s first Flag Football Federation.

Gatekeepers News reports that the governing body’s elections for its executive officers are expected to follow immediately after the body is inaugurated.

The update was issued on Tuesday in a statement by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to  NSC Director General, who noted that no association either local or foreign has ever been formally authorised to represent Nigeria in flag football.

According to the commission, Nigerian law gives the NSC the exclusive mandate to approve, regulate, and supervise all sports federations in the country, including those relating to flag football. It stressed that until now, no group has had the legal authority to act for the nation in the sport.

The Director General explained that ongoing engagements with various stakeholders are aimed at establishing a unified national structure for flag football.

He said, “The National Sports Commission is currently engaging all stakeholders in flag football regarding the finalisation of a unified national federation.”

“The NSC values the contributions of all groups and is committed to an inclusive governance structure that aligns with international standards and Nigeria’s sports development objectives.”

The DG also noted that the recognition exercise is still underway and that no final decision has been issued.

The commission assured players, coaches, organisations, and international partners that the new federation will be grounded in transparency, inclusiveness, and globally accepted standards to ensure credible representation of Nigeria at international events.

Further information on the election schedule, membership criteria, and transitional processes is expected to be made public soon.
