Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged Nigerians to help identify and report ineligible and deceased persons on the voter register as the Display for Claims and Objections begins on December 15, 2025.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, said in a statement on Wednesday that the exercise, mandated under Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, is essential for keeping the register clean and credible. The display will run from December 15–21 at INEC Local Government Offices nationwide.
“The Commission urges all eligible citizens, especially those who registered, transferred, or updated their information during this phase, to verify their details, report inaccuracies, and draw attention to ineligible or deceased persons on the register,” Eta-Messi said.
She stressed that public vigilance is key to preventing fraudulent or erroneous entries.
Giving an update on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), INEC said it has recorded 9,891,801 online pre-registrations, with 2,572,054 completed registrations as of November 28, 2025. CVR remains suspended in Anambra State and the FCT due to ongoing electoral activities, with new dates to be announced.
INEC added that the second phase of the CVR exercise will resume on January 5, 2026.
In Yobe State, Resident Electoral Commissioner Ibrahim Abdullahi announced that physical CVR in the 17 LGAs will end on December 10, while the display of the preliminary register will hold from December 15–21.
Abdullahi said the claims and objections period allows voters to correct errors in their biodata, including names, wards, and NIN, with December 21 set aside to address complaints.
“Registration of voters and production of an accurate register are fundamental and critical requirements of the electoral system,” he said, noting that Section 10 of the Electoral Act mandates continuous voter registration.
