A police officer has died and several others were injured after suspected bandits attacked a joint security team in Kuzuntu, Anchau, within Kubau LGA, Kaduna State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the ambush happened around 2 pm on Wednesday, according to Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication.
The team, which included Nigerian Army personnel, police officers, Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS) operatives, and local vigilantes, was returning from an assignment at the government grazing reserve in Kuzuntu.
Makama reported that the security operatives had been deployed at the request of the Kubau LGA Chairman to escort staff of an agro-industry and local officials for measurements of the grazing area. The mission was completed successfully.
On their way back, the team was ambushed by armed men believed to be bandits. Police Constable Sunday Ishaya was fatally shot, while several soldiers sustained injuries.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where PC Ishaya was confirmed dead. The injured personnel are receiving treatment and responding well. The remains of the deceased officer have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ikara.
