Imo State Government has closed a hotel and a private mortuary in the Umuhu area of Ngor-Okpala after officers found bodies in very poor and improper conditions, which raised concerns about possible unlawful practices.

Gatekeepers News reports that Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the state police command, announced the action on Sunday.

He explained that the discovery came during a wider operation against kidnapping and other violent crimes along the Owerri-Aba Expressway. The operation was led by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma in collaboration with security partners.

Okoye said the move followed reliable intelligence on a wanted suspect, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who has not been found. Officers went on to inspect a hotel and a mortuary linked to him, locations that were allegedly used by criminals.

He noted that at the mortuary, decomposed and mutilated corpses were discovered in unhygienic conditions, raising suspicions of illegal organ-harvesting activities.

The spokesman added that the hotel and mortuary were immediately sealed on the orders of the State Government, while a search at the suspect’s home led to the recovery of important evidence.

The commissioner of police promised that everyone involved in the case would be traced and prosecuted. He said, “Stanley Morocco Oparaugo has been declared WANTED. Anyone with useful information should contact the nearest police station.”

He also noted that more security personnel have been deployed along the Owerri-Aba Expressway.
