The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has reported a power outage affecting parts of its network, including the Ogba, Ikeja, and Alausa areas of Lagos.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a message to customers on Tuesday, seen by TheCable, the DisCo explained that the disruption was caused by a jumper cut at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) injection substation.

A jumper cut occurs when a jumper cable — used to maintain electrical continuity — becomes damaged, disconnected, or deliberately severed.

According to IKEDC, TCN’s engineers are already working to fix the fault.

“Dear Customer, the current power outage is due to a 132kV jumper cut at the TCN Injection Substation (ISS),” the DisCo said.

“The TCN technical team is already working to clear the fault to ensure supply is restored as soon as possible.”

A resident of Ogba who spoke with TheCable expressed frustration over the outage, saying:

“No light in my area since yesterday.”

Responding to concerns, Kingsley Okotie, spokesperson for Ikeja DisCo, clarified that the fault did not affect the entire franchise.

“It doesn’t totally affect the whole of our franchise. The message was sent to only customers in areas affected,” he said.

“We are still working to resolve the issues; that’s where we are at the moment.”

The development comes days after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) listed Eko, Abuja, and Ikeja DisCos as strong performers in billing, collections, and recovery efficiency. In September alone, the commission noted, all DisCos generated a combined revenue of N196.26 billion.
