The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 139,251 residents completed their applications in the first phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Lagos.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Ayobami Salami, disclosed this in a statement shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Taiwo Gbadegesin.
The online registration for the CVR began on August 18, while physical registration commenced on August 25 for eligible residents. Successful applicants will receive their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Salami said the first phase of the exercise, which ended on Wednesday, covered new registrations, transfers, updates and reviews. Of the 139,251 applications completed, 12,283 involved transfers, while 126,668 were fresh registrations.
He explained that 102,261 applicants completed their pre-registration online, while 24,407 completed physical capturing.
On gender distribution, Salami said 57,949 registrants were male and 68,719 were female.
For age categories, 70,436 applicants aged 18 to 34 registered, representing 55.7 percent of the total. Other age groups recorded were:
– 35–39: 12,186
– 40–44: 12,946
– 45–49: 10,855
– 50–54: 7,611
– 55–59: 5,266
– 60–64: 3,327
– 65–69: 2,317
– 70 and above: 1,727
The report also included statistics on occupation categories and the number of Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) who registered.
Salami said the preliminary voters’ register would be displayed for claims and objections from December 15 to 21 across all local government areas where registration took place.
In Ogun State, INEC recorded 85,739 completed registrations — both online and physical — between August 25 and December 5.
This was contained in a statement issued in Abeokuta by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Feyijimi Saseyi. According to her, 57,598 applicants completed online pre-registration, while 28,141 completed physical registration.
Saseyi said the first phase of the CVR exercise ended on December 10, and the second phase would resume nationwide on January 5.
“In accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the commission will display the register of voters for claims and objections from Monday, December 15 to December 21 at all 20 council area offices in the state between 9:00am and 3:00pm daily.
“This critical phase allows eligible citizens to verify their information, report errors, and identify ineligible or deceased persons.
“Citizens who newly registered, transferred their voting locations, or updated their details are encouraged to participate,” she said, adding that designated forms will be available at display centres for submitting claims or objections.
