Imo Govt Demolishes Hotel And Mortuary Over Alleged Organ Harvesting Activities

The Imo State Government has demolished Jessy Best Hotel and the mortuary of Ugwudi Cottage Hospital, both located along the Owerri–Aba road in Ngor Okpala LGA, over allegations of organ harvesting and other criminal activities.

Gatekeepers Newreports that authorities sealed the morgue earlier after discovering decomposed and mutilated corpses stored in deplorable conditions, raising strong suspicions of illegal organ harvesting.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Aboki Danjuma, the state commissioner of police, said the demolition was carried out on the orders of Governor Hope Uzodimma.

Danjuma said the property owner, Stanley Oparaugo—popularly known as “Morocco”—has been declared wanted after repeatedly refusing police invitations.

According to him, intelligence reports linked the hotel and mortuary to organised criminal operations.

“The mortuary was suspected to be a site for organ harvesting, as many of the bodies recovered were mutilated,” Danjuma said.

“Oparaugo can run, but he cannot hide for long. The law will catch up with him.”

He urged residents to provide information that could aid the suspect’s arrest and assured travellers on the Owerri–Aba expressway of “safe trips and tight security” throughout the yuletide season.

The enforcement operation also led to the demolition of two luxury homes—a bungalow and a duplex—along with a smaller apartment in the Ngor community. Security agencies said the properties were used as a shrine, with fetish items recovered and burnt during the exercise.
