Malami Yet To Fulfill Bail Conditions — EFCC

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation (AGF), has not met the conditions attached to his bail.

Gatekeepers News reports that the anti-graft agency was reacting to claims by Malami that his bail was withdrawn because he attended a political event in Kebbi State.

Recall that Malami is currently under investigation over 18 alleged offences, including money laundering, abuse of office, and terrorism financing.

On Friday, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami’s special assistant on media, stated that the former AGF had not breached any bail terms.

He said, “For the avoidance of doubt, Abubakar Malami, SAN did not default on any bail condition. His bail was revoked by the EFCC following his attendance at a political gathering in Kebbi State, not because he failed or refused to comply with any lawful requirement.”

However, the EFCC dismissed the claim in a statement on Saturday, describing it as “false”. It said, “Administrative bail is a discretionary temporary reprieve that allows a suspect to be released on stated conditions pending conclusion of investigation and arraignment in court.”

The commission explained that after Malami’s interrogation on November 28, 2025, he was granted provisional bail based on five conditions, none of which he has fulfilled.

EFCC said, “He has neither met any of the requirements nor shown readiness to keep faith with them.”

According to the agency, Malami was expected to return for further questioning on December 1, 2025, but later requested permission to excuse himself on health grounds. The EFCC said it approved the request despite the bail conditions remaining unmet.

The commission added that the former minister failed to submit any medical report or credible evidence to support his claim of ill-health.

The statement added, “The EFCC cannot allow the latitude granted the former Minister on his health stand in the way of investigations.”

The agency said Malami was invited again on December 8, 2025, for further interrogation and was detained pending compliance with the outstanding bail requirements.

It said, “Evidently, the former minister’s claims of revocation of bail by the EFCC are untenable. It is equally ridiculous to insinuate that the Commission barred him ‘from granting media interviews and from participating in political activities in Kebbi State’.”

The commission stressed that it has no interest in the political activities or affiliations of suspects. It said, “Such bogus claims from a former chief law officer of the nation are strange, as the EFCC has no interest in the political affiliation of its suspects.”

EFCC advised Malami to focus on meeting the bail conditions he acknowledged and signed on November 28, 2025, and to cooperate fully with investigators instead of “whipping up sentiments through false claims in the media.”
