Ireti Kingibe, senator representing Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has joined African Democratic Congress (ADC), completing her defection from Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Gatekeepers News reports that Kingibe received her ADC membership card on Thursday during a ceremony held at Merit House, Abuja, marking the final step in a move she first announced in July. The event drew party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the FCT and beyond.
Speaking at the gathering, the senator said her decision to align with the ADC was driven by what she described as the party’s expanding influence, internal organisation, and people-oriented approach to governance.
She said, “I have chosen to join the African Democratic Congress because it is a giant in the making. In the FCT, ADC is not just present; it is strong, vibrant, and growing from strength to strength.”
Kingibe added that the party’s emphasis on inclusive development and responsive leadership aligns with her vision for Abuja and its residents, especially as debates around infrastructure, security, and social welfare continue to dominate public discourse in the capital.
Several national and FCT-level party officials were present at the ceremony, including former ADC national chairman Ralphs Nwosu and other members of the party’s national executive.
