Gov AbdulRazaq Presents N644bn 2026 Budget To Kwara Assembly

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday presented a N644 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to Kwara State House of Assembly.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Governor outlined a spending plan that prioritises capital projects, workers’ welfare, and social support.

Addressing lawmakers, the Governor said the budget, tagged Budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth, allocates about 66 per cent to capital expenditure, while the remaining portion is set aside for recurrent spending, including salaries and support for vulnerable residents.

He said, “With profound gratitude to God for His mercies and guidance, I again stand before this Honourable House to lay the 2026 Appropriation Bill in compliance with Section 121 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He explained that the fiscal plan focuses on completing ongoing projects, starting new priority ones, and strengthening security through investment in equipment, vehicles, and technology to tackle kidnapping and criminal activities.

The Governor added, “The total size of the proposal is N644,004,816,893.00. 65.98% of this fiscal plan goes to capital expenditure, while the rest (34.02 per cent) takes care of recurrent spendings.”

AbdulRazaq noted that the budget assumptions were aligned with national economic projections, including oil price benchmarks, exchange rate estimates, and growth outlook, adding that the investments would expand the state’s economy, attract businesses, and create jobs.

He also announced plans to improve welfare in key sectors, disclosing that adjustments have been approved for medical officers’ pay, while a new Teachers Salary Allowance will take effect in 2026.

According to him, investments in agriculture, including Alfalfa Estate, are aimed at boosting food security and reducing herder-farmer conflicts.

Reflecting on the outgoing fiscal year, the Governor highlighted progress in road construction, education, health, and technology, stressing that the 2026 budget is central to the administration’s long-term legacy.

He said, “The 2026 budget is critical for our legacy as an administration, and I urge this Honourable House to expedite legislative action on it.”

In his response, Speaker of the House Salihu Yakubu-Danladi praised the Governor’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and separation of powers, assuring that lawmakers would give the proposal prompt and detailed consideration.

The budget presentation was witnessed by top government officials, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders across the state.
