Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, working with local vigilantes, have killed 17 suspected insurgents and disrupted a logistics supply network during a coordinated ambush in Borno State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the operation took place in the early hours of December 21 as part of ongoing military operations in the North-East region.

The military said the action followed credible intelligence on the movement of logistics supplies by suspected members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad and the Islamic State West Africa Province.

Based on the intelligence, troops alongside members of the civilian joint task force and local hunters were deployed to an interception point between Sojiri and Kayamla villages on the night of December 20.

The statement reads, “At about 2:24 am on December 21, suspected terrorists riding bicycles arrived at the location conveying logistics materials, confirming earlier intelligence.”

The military said the troops, who were positioned in concealed and well-coordinated formations, opened fire on the insurgents, leading to a brief but decisive exchange.

The statement added, “Seventeen suspected terrorists were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.”

Several items were recovered from the scene, including bicycles, food supplies, drugs and medical items, detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres, torchlights, as well as assorted weapons and ammunition.

The military said the ambush team safely withdrew to its base at about 4:20 am, noting that further exploitation and follow-up operations are ongoing to assess the area and restrict insurgents’ movement.
