Nigeria Beat Tanzania 2–1 In AFCON 2025 Opener

Nigeria’s Super Eagles recorded a 2–1 victory over Tanzania in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group match played on Tuesday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the match was keenly contested, with both teams showing strong determination from the start.

Nigeria took the lead in the first half after defender Semi Ajayi scored with a well-placed header to put Super Eagles ahead.

Tanzania responded after the break, pulling level with an equalising goal early in the second half. The goal briefly shifted momentum in their favour as they pressed for more opportunities.

However, Nigeria quickly regained control when Ademola Lookman scored the winning goal moments later, restoring the Super Eagles’ lead. The team then stayed composed, defending well and limiting Tanzania’s chances for the rest of the match.

This result comes as Nigeria aims to go further in this AFCON edition after narrowly missing out on the 2026 World Cup earlier this year.
