Yuletide: Catholic Priest Calls for Love Saying Nigeria’s Future Is ‘Pregnant’

A Catholic priest from Anambra State, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Obimma, has urged Nigerians to embrace love and charity, describing them as the core essence of the birth of Jesus Christ, while warning that the country’s future holds uncertainties.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Rev. Fr Obimma, popularly known as Fr Ebube Muonso, made the call in his Christmas message, where he encouraged Nigerians—particularly Christians—to uphold love and compassion as the foundation of Christianity.

The cleric, who is the Spiritual Director of the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, stressed that leaders must govern with empathy and a deep sense of responsibility to the people.

“The seed of Christianity is love. Christ came into the world for a purpose: to die that we may live,” he said. “Nigerian leaders must lead after God’s own heart and purpose. They must understand that God entrusts poor Nigerians into their hands. Therefore, they must do everything possible to show love and put smiles on the faces of the citizens. That is the summary of Christmas.”

He called on Nigerians to show kindness to one another, insisting that love remains the true test of faith.

“Let us put smiles on the faces of our brothers and sisters. There is no authentic Christianity without the love of Christ. And what is the love of Christ? That we may love our neighbours as ourselves,” he said.

Fr Obimma also urged Christians to promote peace in their communities, noting that unity was necessary to confront societal challenges.

“As Christians, let us maintain peace in our communities so that together, we can fight our common enemy, which is the devil. Let us emulate Christ, who is our Christmas; knowing that in Christ, we triumph, but without Christ, we are in crisis,” he added.

In a prophetic message, the priest warned that Nigeria’s future remains uncertain, describing it as “pregnant,” particularly with reference to 2026.

“Nigeria is pregnant. As far as 2026 is concerned, Nigeria is pregnant. That is what I can say for now. The future of Nigeria is pregnant; it is only God that can save this country,” he said.

Although he did not give specific details, Fr Obimma said he would continue to intercede for the nation.

“As a prophet of the Most High God, I will continue to pray that the Holy Ghost will intervene in the affairs of Nigeria. It is only God that can save this country from what is happening, and what is to come,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the cleric explained the rationale behind the annual Christmas outreach organised by the Fada Ebube Muonso Foundation in his Nkwelle-Ezunaka country home, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to him, the initiative— which includes the distribution of cash, rice and other relief materials to indigent persons— began even before his ordination.

“Even before I was ordained a priest, as a seminarian, I used my pocket money to do Christmas for the less privileged,” he said. “After my ordination, I magnified it. But after the demise of my mother, I raised it higher to be a monumental foundation for the alleviation of poverty and burden from the poor masses.”

Fr Obimma added that through the foundation, thousands of beneficiaries are on free education programmes across secondary schools, universities and seminaries, while hundreds of widows and indigent persons receive various forms of support.

He described the annual gathering as a period of thanksgiving, unity and sharing, aimed at celebrating God’s goodness during the Christmas season.
